Project Basic Information:
Project Name: Coastal Container Creative Market in Phuket, Thailand
Location: Coastal tourist area of Phuket, Thailand
Application Scenario: Tourism cultural and creative market (retail, dining, leisure)
Core Products: Flat-pack containers (main), quick-assembly containers (public areas)
Project Scale: Comprising over 50 container units, housing more than 80 shops.
Main Challenges:
Seasonal Constraints and Ultra-Fast Opening:
Needed to fully leverage the tourist peak season, requiring an extremely short cycle from planning to opening, which traditional construction methods could not meet.
Visual Appeal and Unique Experience:
The highly competitive tourist area demanded a commercial space with strong visual impact and a unique experiential quality to attract visitors.
Adaptation to Tropical Coastal Climate:
High temperatures, humidity, frequent rain, and salt erosion posed challenges requiring high weather resistance, corrosion resistance, ventilation, and cooling capabilities.
Flexibility and Future Adjustments:
Frequent tenant changes and market dynamics required the market’s layout and functionality to be quickly adaptable.
Solutions:
Cluster-Style Rapid Deployment with Flat-Pack Containers:
All shop units used standard-sized flat-pack containers. Components such as wall panels, doors, windows, and roofs were prefabricated in the factory, numbered, and transported in packages.
On-site work primarily involved hoisting, bolt fastening, and pipeline connections, significantly reducing on-site construction and wet work. The overall assembly speed was over 70% faster than traditional construction.
Horizontal staggering, vertical stacking (2-3 stories), vibrant color schemes (bright yellow, lake blue, coral pink, etc.), and rooftop terraces created a visually striking architectural cluster.
Open Spaces and Natural Ventilation:
Clever combination of container units formed public spaces like central plazas and alleys, promoting pedestrian interaction.
Extensive outdoor corridors, shade structures, fully openable doors and windows, and supplemented forced exhaust systems ensured air circulation and reduced reliance on air conditioning.
Targeted Weather Resistance Treatment:
All steel structures underwent hot-dip galvanizing or high-performance anti-rust coating to combat high humidity and salt-rich air.
Double-layer drainage design for roofs and insulated wall panels enhanced comfort and energy efficiency.
Product Details:
Structure: Light steel keel framework ensuring structural stability.
Wall Panels: Metal embossed panels or galvanized steel composite insulation materials, combining aesthetics with thermal insulation.
Doors and Windows: Large glass doors and windows (some foldable or rotating) to enhance visibility and transparency.
Decoration: Exterior facades incorporate ample mounting points for signage, light boxes, and greenery installation.
Expansion: Quick-assembly containers were used in some areas to create large column-free spaces for food courts or performance venues.
